Troops on the Streets..

Ok, I give up, I have no idea why the government thinks that troops on the streets after a terrorist attack is going to help anyone.

Perhaps it is to control a panicking populace. Think back to when the Royal Adelaide Hospital did an emergency test a while ago they found they had to lock their entrances as people were determined to get into the hospital...

Apart from that, any terrorist worth their salt will either be dead or long gone...

So, a terrorist incident, troops with permission to shoot to kill... a populace which starts to panic... sounds like bloodshed with no responsibility to me.

Is it unAustralian of me to be suspicious? Is this really a way to divert attention away from the IR bill? Are they testing the fear factor/apathy of Australians or are they hoping that in the confusion they can get both through?

In the UK, the anti-terror bill may have its first casualty before it's even passed - The PMs position is looking precarious. It looks like he has no chance of getting it through parliament, too many of his MPs are threatening to cross the floor. Here of course the biggest risk is of being caught in the stampede to look tough...

Only in Australia...
